Harry Potter Convention to Feature OSU-OBU Match

The weekend of Nov. 23, a two-day Harry Potter convention known as Phoenix Quest is set to take place in Enid, Okla.

At the end of November, a Harry Potter convention in Enid, Okla. will feature a match between players from Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma Baptist University, as well as a myriad of other exciting events.

This weekend, Phoenix Quest is set to take place in Enid, Okla.

According to the event’s website, convention-goers will “check in at the train depot located at Maple and Grand, be sorted into their houses, and will have the opportunity to attend several different events….”

The convention will begin with an optional Yule Ball on Friday night—tickets to which may be purchased for $10—where a wizard rock band called Into the Pensieve will perform, and live owls will be available for viewing.

Saturday, the convention includes a discussion panel from local authors and librarians, as well as a fanfiction and essay contest, the subject of which is “How Harry Potter Changed My Life.” Further fun includes a Horcrux Hunt, costume contests, vendors, a Tri-Wizard Trivia Challenge, crafts and more—all set in Enid’s own AdventureQuest castle.

According to Chandler Smith, Southwest regional director, the event is going to be jam-packed with great events, but one thing in particular to look out for is the match between Oklahoma State University (OSU) and Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) on Saturday afternoon. OSU and OBU players have come together to help organize this event, and Smith hopes Harry Potter fans will come cheer them on during their game.

A special screening of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” will be presented by Enid native Mark Marshall, who worked on its post-production; it will feature rarely seen footage from the film. Entry to this screening is $10.

The cost of the convention is $25 for adults, $15 for kids ages six to 12 and $20 for students with a valid ID. If you choose to participate in both the special film screening and the Yule Ball, the total is $40 for adults, $30 for kids ages six to 12 and $35 for students with a valid ID.

Vendor spaces can also be purchased online, and sponsorship opportunities are also available.
